HOW TO… Podcast Your Way Through Lockdown
Lockdown is all about keeping sane, safe and yourselves entertained. But it’s been nearly three weeks with who knows how many more on the way. You may have binged every Netflix series worth watching, spent hours and hours building dream homes on Sims and now you are wondering what else you can do to pass the time. The sun is making its way out so there’s no better time than to get into something that can be done anywhere.
Here are my top five podcast recommendations to brighten your day (no negativity in sight!)
Happy Place- Fearne Cotton
Fearne Cotton has taken off her Radio One DJ hat and started to be a campaigner for positive mental health and living life in the moment. Her podcast, Happy Place interviews her celeb pals as they talk about their lives and the way in which they live to make themselves happy and healthy. It sometimes outlines some rough topics but there is always a warning at the beginning and mostly each conversation is an open and happy one. Perfect for nosey celeb lovers!
Released every Monday with a back catalogue of 6 series
Shagged, Married, Annoyed- Chris & Rosie Ramsey
Comedian Chris Ramsey and his wife Rosie talk all things relationships, pet peeves and married life through their own experiences and asking for questions and stories from the public. Very, very funny, always light hearted and sometimes a little crass (warning on some fruitful language), it’s something to brighten up your Friday’s through this unknown time.
Released every Friday with a back catalogue of 58 episodes
Desert Island Discs- BBC Radio Show (Various Presenters Over The Years)
This podcast is made up of interviews from a BBC Radio show that was first broadcast in 1942 and is still going! Every week a celebrity is sent away to a desert island and are asked which 8 songs they would like to take with them, alongside interview questions about them and their lives. Some of the most high profile celebrities have visited the ‘island’ including Daniel Radcliffe, David Attenborough, Annie Lennox and so so much more! Some celebs see it as a rite of passage; they must have made it if they’ve made it onto Desert Island Discs.
Released every Sunday with a back catalogue of 100’s of episodes with Classic Desert Island Discs released sporadically
All Killa No Filla- Rachel Fairburn & Kiri Pritchard-McLean
Calling all true crime buffs! Do you want to hear the horrific stories of some of the world’s most notorious serial killers? Yes! Do you also want to have a giggle? Absolutely. The combination of true crime stories and humour don’t exactly go hand in hand, however comedian’s Rachel Fairburn and Kiri Pritchard-McLean have gotten together to share their love and knowledge of true crime and counter balance the tragedy with a little light hearted ‘filla’ in between. Very awful but very interesting stories! Would recommend maybe not listening to this one straight before bed as it goes without saying that it covers some pretty grim topics and has some colourful language too!
Released sporadically with a back catalogue 69 episodes (more episodes being released and live shows streamed through COVID 19 situation)
The High Low- Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton
Looking for new things to discover? New TV series recommendations or which books you should read? Look no further than The High Low which reviews everything from books, music, tv shows and documentaries; basically anything you can do in your down time, they have picked the high’s and the low’s of all things culture. So give it a listen and save some time trawling through endless possibilities, Dolly and Panda have done the hard work for you.
